Detection of Underwater Magnetic Transient Signals by Higher

چکیده

In the study of underwater signals and specially the detection of transients in a noisy background, a lot of second order methods have been developped, and a few bispectrum based techniques more recently, regarding gaussian or stationary noises. Because we are dealing with magnetic signals which are mostly diierent to the acoustic signals, we therefore use methods-in the range of Higher Order Statistics-based on the polycorrelations (cu-mulant sequences) and the WHOS (time-frequency HOS). We have applied them on real underwater magnetic data with no possible hypothesis of gaus-sianity or stationarity to determine their detection abilities in our context.

Enhancing magnetic signals in unexploded ordnances (UXO) detection based on edge-preserved stable downward continuation method

This paper describes an efficient edge-preserved regularization algorithm for downward continuation of magnetic data in detection of unexploded ordnance (UXO). The magnetic anomalies arising from multi-source UXO can overlap at a height over the ground surface, while causative sources may not be readily separated due to low level of signal-to-noise ratio of the observed data. To effectively the...

A Preliminary Study on SVM Based Analysis of Underwater Magnetic Signals for Port Protection

People who attend to the problem of underwater port protection usually use sonar based systems. Recently it has been shown that integrating a sonar system with an auxiliary array of magnetic sensors can improve the effectiveness of the intruder detection system. One of the major issues that arise from the integrated magnetic and acoustic system is the interpretation of the magnetic signals comi...

Advanced signal processing methods for the analysis of transient radiated noise from submarines

Acoustic discretion is a key performance for many naval vessels such as submarines, in order to prevent underwater detection by adverse sonar systems. In the past decades, acoustic discretion of submarines has been greatly improved, as far as stationary noise is concerned. With the development of new sonar systems, with a capability to detect transient noises, it is now important to treat trans...

A Novel Detection Method for Underwater Moving Targets by Measuring Their ELF Emissions with Inductive Sensors

In this article, we propose a novel detection method for underwater moving targets by detecting their extremely low frequency (ELF) emissions with inductive sensors. The ELF field source of the targets is modeled by a horizontal electric dipole at distances more than several times of the targets' length. The formulas for the fields produced in air are derived with a three-layer model (air, seaw...

Signal Detection in Underwater Sound Using the Empirical Mode Decomposition

In this article, the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is introduced to the problem of signal detection in underwater sound. EMD is a new method pioneered by Huang et al. for non-linear and nonstationary signal analysis. Based on the EMD, any input data can be decomposed into a small number of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) which can serve as the basis of non-stationary data for they are comp...
